Get Started Reading the Bible

Suggested reading plan for everyone to go through, especially as a new believer or new to reading the King James bible.

A good idea is to complete steps 1 to 3 within the first three days and then make it a habit to read (or listen to if using an audio version) at least a couple of chapters every day for the remaining steps. Enough to get the context, but not so much that it starts to overwhelm or meaning gets lost. Also, there are 31 chapters of Proverbs, one for each day of the month. Add reading a chapter in Proverbs every day as you go through the steps 4 to 7.

Psalm 119 gives 176 benefits for reading God’s words.

  1. Read the gospel of Mark – it is the shortest gospel and a good introduction to begin getting to know Jesus
  2. Read the book of James – it is the “how to” book for believers, and an essential handbook for new believers giving the basics for the new life of a believer to live by.
  3. Read Genesis 1 to 11 – the rest of the bible and the biblical world view is based on the events that take place in Genesis 1 to 11.
  4. Read the gospel of Luke, Acts, and letters of Paul: Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon
  5. Read the gospel of Matthew, James, Hebrews, Jude
  6. Read the gospel of Mark then 1 Peter, 2 Peter
  7. Read the gospel of John, then 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, Revelation
