Worship Jesus

We are commanded to only worship God in Exodus 20:4-5; Exodus 24:14; Ps 81:9

Jesus affirms “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” in Mt 4:10 and Luke 4:8

Paul says that worshipping of angels can “beguile you of your reward” in Col 2:18

The wise men from the east worshipped Jesus

Mt 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Mt 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Jesus received worship

Mt 8:2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

Mt 9:18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

Mt 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Mt 15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

Mt 20:20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

Mt 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

Mt 28:17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

John 9:35-38 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?  He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

Believers worshipped Jesus after He was carried up into heaven

Luke 24:51-53 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

The same Greek word proskyneō used for worshipping God is the same word used for worshipping Jesus (see G4352 used in Mt 2:11; Mt 4:9; Mt 4:10; Mt 8:2; etc…) So if Jesus is not being worshipped neither is the Father.

Jesus outright says he that honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father

John 5:23 that all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

And if there is any remaining doubt…

Phil 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Peter refused worship

Acts 10:25-26 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

Paul and Barnabas refused worship

Acts 14:11-15 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

Angels refuse worship

Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Rev 22:8-9 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

Satan wants to be worshipped

Mt 4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Compare the scriptures (ie: Mt 8:2) of Jesus recieving worship in the KJB with the same verses in the modern per-versions (such as NIV, ESV, etc).  You will find that they have removed the worship of Jesus but not the worship of Satan.

worlds

Working definition: Refers to any sphere of existence.  Basically is something that can be inhabited.  Can be a defined system, habitat, dimension, “atmosphere”, “sphere of influence”, culture, realm, government, generation, time/age/epoch/eon, etc.  Can refer to the earth or a planet in the sense that they are a place that can be inhabited.

Earth and world formed separately…

Ps 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

the earth formed first and the world formed in the earth…

Job 37:12 and it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.

Mankind dwells on the earth, but inhabits (makes a habitat) in the world

Isaiah 18:3 All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye.

There are multiple worlds…

Hebrews 1:2 hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

There is also a past world:

2 Peter 3:6 whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

There is also a present and a future world:

Mt 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

an offer you should not refuse

All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God and the wages of sin is death — BUT the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The Bible says “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” I’m a whosoever…and you are, too!

God truly loves you (John 3:16). He knows your name, He knows your situation, and if you are not a Christian then His fervent desire is to adopt you as His child. He would go to great lengths for the joy of having you as part of His family, even to the point of letting His only begotten Son be executed in your place so that you can be freed of all guilt and burdens.

Stop what you are doing and pray this prayer right now:

Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Wash me and cleanse me. Set me free. Jesus, I thank You that You died for me. I believe that You are risen from the dead and that You’re coming back again for me. Oh God, fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Give me a passion for the lost, a hunger for the things of God, and a holy boldness to tell others the Gospel of Jesus Christ. According to the Word of God and my prayer, I’m saved, I’m born again, and I’m on my way to heaven, because I have Jesus in my heart. Amen!

in the greek

I often hear folks use the term “in the greek” as some form of incantation of authoritative invulnerability.  They seem to think by saying that it gives them ultimate authority to correct the bible any which way they please.

My response is “Which greek?”…

Is it Textus Receptus?  The Critical Text? Is it Erasmus,      Tregelles, Stephanus, Beza, Elziver, Scrivner?  One of the 21 Tischendorf editions?  Westcott-Hort?  The SBL?  One of the five UBS editions?  One of the 28 Nestle-Aland editions?

Are you relying on the handful (around 47, mostly fragments) of Alexandrian manuscripts?  The most known of which is Codex A – Alexandrinus, Codex B – Vaticanus, Codex Aleph – Sinaiticus?

Or the over 5000 manuscripts of the Antiochian (Syrian) line?

Where is the ultimate authority?  Where did God preserve His words?  Did God break His promise to preserve His words?

Did He who created the universe and upholds all things by the word of his power (Heb 1:3) somehow become powerless to preserve His words?

God promises to preserve His words

Psalms 12:6-7 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

You shall not add or take away, says God

Deuteronomy 4:1-2 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you. Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

God cares about every one of His words

Proverbs 30:5-6 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

God’s words will never pass away

Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

God will curse those who change His Word

Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
